Ashaka Acquires Land, Plans N262m Housing Units

Already, the construction of 55 residential houses has begun on the land  as well as a primary school, a clinic, a central Mosque and three boreholes for the communities which are expected to be completed within the next three months. Ahead of  its expansion programme ,  Ashaka Cem Plc, producers of Ashaka brand of cement has acquired about 40 hectres of land for the relocation of three villages within its factory in Funakaye Local Council  of Gombe State.   Already, the construction of 55 residential houses has begun on the land  as well as a primary school, a clinic, a central Mosque and three boreholes for the communities which are expected to be completed within the next three months. OPIC Commences Redevelopment Of Agbara Estate

In a bid to boost the government’s urban renewal programme, the Ogun State Property and Investment Corporation says it has commenced the redevelopment of the OPIC Agbara Estate through the construction of new houses. The redevelopment, according to the Special Adviser to the Governor/Managing Director, OPIC, Mr. Babajide Odusolu, will entail the creation of new gated residential zones and the provision of modern infrastructure in the entire estate. He said the estate was due for redevelopment as one of the foremost industrial layouts in the country, covering a landmass in excess of 6,000 hectares and serving as a commercial and industrial node linking Ogun and Lagos states. Experts remain upbeat about housing, mortgage finance growth

The housing and housing finance sector will grow in leaps in the coming months, experts in the sector have predicted. Some of the experts, who spoke on the outlook for the different aspects of the sector for this year, were positive that the steps that were taken to reduce the housing deficit in the country in 2013 would be consolidated in 2014. According to them, the predictions that the country’s economy will grow at a steady rate this year will rub off on the housing sector. The President, Nigerian Institute of Building, Mr. Tunde Lasabi, said more developers would come into the sector in the course of the year. He also expressed the hope that the Federal Government would facilitate the availability of building materials by reducing the import duty on them. Investor to raise N116bn for Lagos-Ibadan Expressway reconstruction

Indication emerged on Tuesday that the reconstruction of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway would be largely private-sector financed. The Federal Government said it had made a provision for N50bn, representing 30 per cent of the N167bn cost of the project, leaving the private investors and financiers led by the Infrastructure Bank to raise the N117bn balance needed to complete the project. This was contained in a statement signed by the Director of Information, Federal Ministry of Works, Mr. Bisi Agbonyin. The details of the infrastructure financing facility showed that the Federal Government would provide N50bn as its counterpart funding for the project. Infrastructure: No new road projects in 2014, says Lagos commissioner for works

The Lagos State government has said it is not going to embark on new projects in the new year, assuring, however, that it would finish all ongoing projects in the state within the lifespan of the present administration led by Babatunde Fashola. Obafemi Hamzat, the state commissioner for works, who disclosed this at an interactive section with the media in his office in Alausa, Ikeja, disclosed that in the outgone year, the state government initiated over 200 road projects out of which 83 have been completed. A report on the property market in sub-Saharan Africa prepared annually by Broll Property Services has shown that Nigeria is the most expensive market for the office space segment of the market. The report explains that as against Ghana’s $37 monthly for a square metre in a Grade A office space and $26 apiece in Mauritius and Madagascar for the same period, a square metre in an Grade A office space in Lagos or Port Harcourt could rent for as high as $70 a month, making it 100 percent higher. Broll, one of Africa’s leading commercial property service providers, claims that despite the availability of prime properties in major city centres such as Lagos and Abuja, the needs of some international tenants seeking befitting office spaces are yet to be met, thus increasing the rents of the available spaces as demand for same outstrips supply. Work commences on new OPIC Estate in Abeokuta

The Ogun State property and Investment Corporation has announced the commencement of construction at its Orange Valley Estate located opposite the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. The project, according to the Special Adviser to the Governor/Managing Director, OPIC, Mr. Babajide Odusolu, is designed to be the first premium gated community in Ogun State and is in furtherance of the Senator Ibikunle Amosun-led administration’s focus on urban renewal and provision of housing solutions. The first phase of the project, according to a statement made available on Sunday, involves the construction of 24 apartments and 29 semi-detached duplexes, which are scheduled for completion within six months. The second phase, the statement added, would take further nine months to complete and would include recreational facilities and 18 luxurious villas. Odusolu explained that the Orange Valley was designed to create a scenic and serene green living environment for its residents an
