Julius Berger named partner for Abuja Centenary City

Eagle Hills, Abu Dhabi-based private real estate investment and development company, has announced the appointment of a construction company, Julius Berger Nigeria, as a key collaborator and developer of the Centenary City, its premier lifestyle development in Abuja.

Abuja Centenary City is real estate development conceived as a fitting tribute to Nigeria on its 100th year of formation.

The 1,300-hectare master-planned community is the largest of its kind in Africa and is developed by Centenary City Plc and Eagle Hills.

The firm in a statement said the Centenary City Plc, which is a joint venture, aimed to create the city of the future in Abuja.

The statement read in part, “This milestone development is envisaged as a city within the city, and will add tremendous value to the Nigerian economy. Julius Berger has played a strong role in the development of Nigeria’s flourishing industrial and civil infrastructure for close to 50 years.

“During this time, the company became closely involved in the planning and construction of Nigeria’s new capital, Abuja FCT.”

It added that the deployment of progressive construction methods combined with skilled workforce numbering over 18,000 persons in the company would ensure delivery of superior quality in strict conformity to requirements set by the Standards Organisation of Nigeria and International Standards Organisation.

The statement quoted the Managing Director of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Detlev Lubasch, as saying that being part of the Abuja Centenary City project was a testament to the firm’s long standing commitment to Nigeria.

“Our goal goes beyond working on the development of this iconic city. We are strongly focused on transferring knowledge to our Nigerian employees through training and development – and are proud of our contribution to the development of specialist and technical skills of our workforce here,” he added.

Also, a Board Member of Eagle Hills, Mohamed Alabbar, was quoted as saying Julius Berger had a long and distinguished record of delivering important projects in Nigeria and Eagle Hills was delighted to partner the firm to develop Abuja Centenary City.

He stated that Abuja Centenary City would be the world’s second-largest private city development.

“It will promote world-class multinational and domestic businesses in a planned environment that will encourage business and trade in the 21st century,” he said.
