Ogun lands bureau begins online services

The Ogun State Government has said it has commenced giving online information on land matters and related issues through the deployment of a Geographic Information System.

The Director-General, Bureau of Lands and Survey, Mr. Adewale Oshinowo, made this known during the 2014 ministerial press briefing on the achievement of the agency in the last one year.

Oshinowo, according to a statement made available on Sunday, said the GIS had been programmed in a way that each application received by the bureau and other land related information by applicants could be viewed online through the help of a Land Information System.

He was quoted as saying, “As part of the Geographical Information System being embarked upon by the bureau, the Land Information System has been tailored in such a way that information on land can be easily accessed online by all stakeholders.

“In effect, the development of GIS has provided a platform for clients of the bureau, the good people of Ogun State, to be able to take rational decisions on land related matters before committing their hard earned money on any landed property within the state.”

Oshinowo added that the GIS had given the bureau a competitive advantage of fast-tracking all transactions, which had given the officials the opportunity to reduce the period of processing the Certificate of Occupancy as well as letter of consent and letter of allocation to six months.

He also stated that the payment of compensation to those whose properties were demolished in order to pave the way for road expansion was a dual responsibility of the bureau and the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure in the state.

According to him, compensation will be paid to owners of demolished property without any further delay after the assessment and valuation have been done by the two government agencies.

The DG also stated that the state government was not relenting in its commitment to the re-establishment of boundaries in the border areas of the country as well as that of the Olokola Free Trade Zone Enterprises.

According to the statement, the DG also said that land encroachment in the state had reduce drastically, adding that the government policy on land matter needed to prevail on speculators and that their activities had been reduced with the use of the GIS.
