Rainstorm destroys 100 homes in Plateau

No fewer than 100 houses and shops were destroyed  by rainstorm, which followed more than four hours of torrential rainfall in  Dorowa village of Barkin ladi local government area  of Plateau State.

Also hundreds of people were rendered homeless by the rainstorm, which also destroyed two schools,  shops and a police station.

It was gathered that  many of the affected house owners in  the village    were now squatting with relations in various parts of the state.

Chairman  of the local government, Mr.  Emmauel Loman,  told newsmen on Saturday that he has called on the state government and the State Emergency Management Agency to come to the aid of the victims.

He said, “Right now the safety and wellbeing of the displaced people is our priority and that is why we have called on the state government and SEMA to come to our aid.”

Loman also appealed for donations from individuals in order to assist those affected.
