Lagos State Government Closes Lateef Jakande Road for 12days

The Lagos State Government says Lateef Jakande Road by WEMPCO Road junction is to be closed to traffic from the night of Friday, March 28 to Wednesday, April 9, 2014.

The government explained that the closure was to enable the contractor constructing the underground drainage project in the area to cross the road from WEMPCO Road into Omole Gorge where the drainage would discharge.

A statement by the External Relations Specialist, Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, Kolawole Ojelabi, further explained that the drainage, when completed, would collect flood water and other waste water

coming from Agege, Ogba and environs and prevent flooding usually experienced in the areas.

The statement added, “The project would also complement WEMPCO Road currently being rehabilitated.

“Motorists from the Ikeja, Alausa area, going to Pen Cinema will not be affected as ACME and WEMPCO roads will still be opened for use.

“However, motorists going to Ogunnusi Road, Ojodu Berger and Omole Phase 1 would have to connect Ogunnusi Road via Abiodun Jagun or use Lagos Ibadan Expressway.

“Motorists from Ojodu, Omole going to Ikeja or Lateef Jakande Road should use alternative roads as provided.”

The statement urged motorists to watch out for road diversion signs and cooperate with traffic management officials as congestion was expected.

It also advised road users to exercise restraints and maintain lane discipline, adding that  LAMATA would work with the contractor to complete the job on time.
